Fully functional 1 1/2" f/4.5 Newtonian Telescope 18X at 1/12 scale Machined

Description

This the last of 3 custom built miniature Newtonian telescopes. This is precision built by an accomplished telescope maker with decades of experience.  The focusing is by primary mirror movement by rotating the knurled brass knob at rear of tube. The primary mirror is just 1 1/2" diameter.  The elliptical diagonal is just 1/2" minor axis supported by a metal 4 vane spider just like full size.  Telescope weighs 1 1/2 pounds.
The telescope mount is a work of art. Precision ground steel axles running in bronze castings. There is a bronze worm gear (100 teeth) drive for RA axis. The worm runs in preloaded ball bearings with anti-backlash spring. The declination axis has a precision screw driven tangent arm. Both are operable for fine
adjustment of pointing. There are also adjustable clutches on each axis. The pedestal legs have working leveling screws. The main metal column has a 1/4-20 tripod mounting thread so you can use your own tripod and observe comfortably outside. It is possible to use different eyepieces besides the standard 10mm coated Plossl that is included. They must be resized to be mountable in a .65" diameter barrel.  Collimation is fixed during final assembly.  Note: 1/12 scale mannekin not in the sale.
The 18x views are sharp and contrasty with exact focusing with no play. The optical tube assembly is easily removed from the mount cradle. These mounts are also motorizable with an optional dual axis drive that is 9 volt battery powered. A video of the Newtonian telescope fitted with the optional drive is at:

Note: It doesn't not track at super slow sidereal (star) rate with that option.
