ALL ARE PERFECT AND PRICED AT LESS THAN THE REPLACEMENT HOUSES!
Whether you grew up with Desert Rose Franciscan Ware, collect and enjoy using it now, or both, then you know you’ve come across a special listing in this pair of original California 1950s salt and pepper shakers!
We recently acquired a large collection of Franciscan Ware from a local estate.
The husband and wife bought their first Desert Rose pattern dishware in the late 1940s when they married, and continued to add pieces over the next five or so years.
They are now moving and downsizing their collection, so we have the opportunity to make this single-owner dinnerware available to you!
    As Wikipedia reminds us,
“Beginning in 1875, as a partnership between Charles Gladding, Peter McGill McBean, and George Chambers, Gladding, McBean & Co. would expand from one factory in Lincoln, California to multiple manufacturing plants throughout the Pacific West Coast producing clay products from sewer pipe to architectural terracotta….
Due to the economic collapse of 1929, Gladding, McBean & Co. saw its revenue decreasing due to the cessation of new construction, the main source of the demand for its ceramic products: roofing tile, sewer pipe, architectural terracotta, and brick. To offset the loss of revenues from the sales of ceramic building materials, the Company began the manufacture of earthenware dinnerware and art ware in 1933….
In 1934, Gladding, McBean introduced the Franciscan Pottery line of dinnerware and art ware, named after the Franciscan friars who established missions throughout California in the 18th and 19th centuries. The lines were very successful. In 1937, Gladding, McBean and Co. purchased the Catalina Clay Products Division of Santa Catalina Island Co.. The company closed the pottery moving all molds and equipment to the Glendale plant in Los Angeles…. In 1940, the company introduced the hand-painted embossed pattern Franciscan Apple, and in 1941 Desert Rose. Both patterns became the company's most popular patterns.”
The Desert Rose pattern has been in continuous production since 1941 (except during WWII), and it is the most popular pattern of dinnerware in American history!
With so many pieces in production, serious collectors look for the oldest examples in the best condition – and these salt and pepper shakers are both an original quality-made California example, and dates to the peak of the pattern's popularity in the 1950s!  These are not marked, which is the case for all of the Franciscan Desert Rose shakers of the 1940s/50s.  But the single-owner provenance dates these to circa 1950.
These rosebud shakers stand 2 1/2” in height and 1 7/8" in diameter.
Each is in very good antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only a few light surface abrasions typical of normal use.
If you’ve been searching for just the right Desert Rose-pattern shakers for your collection, then you can rest easy knowing that your search is at an end.
Replacements.com sells this set for .99 (regardless of age), and we are offering these excellent circa 1950 examples at a substantial discount!  Buy these now before they go to someone else’s home

Please Take a Moment to Read About Our Shipping Policies:
    U.S. Buyers:
Please understand that our handling cost includes insurance.  Thus shipping on higher value items may seem high.
Rest assured that we NEVER mark up shipping costs of any kind - we just pass along whatever we have to pay on your behalf.  All basic shipping materials are provided at our expense as a courtesy.  On rare occasion, if your item is particularly fragile or valuable we may need to pass along the actual cost of special packing materials we purchase just for your item.  We typically offer you at least 2 shipping options: Priority Mail for fastest, safest shipment and Parcel Post for slower cheaper service.  Make sure to choose the option that suits you best.  In some cases there is little to no difference in cost between the two services in which case it only makes sense to use Priority Mail.  Certain large or unusually shaped items require special packaging by a professional.  In this case we must pass along the packing fees to you, but we still never mark up these services.  In the unlikely event that we ever accidentally overcharge you we will automatically refund your overpayment via PayPal provided the overcharge exceeds .00.
    International Buyers:
are welcome. Please understand that we use eBay's Global Shipping Program for all shipments outside of the U.S.  Therefore we are unable to make any changes to shipping arrangements once the auction ends.   Since eBay sets the cost for shipping, you'll need to deal with them directly with any inquiries about shipping.  As sellers, we don't even know what they're charging you.  The shipping fee you pay us only covers the cost of shipment to eBay's shipping center in Kentucky, USA.  We do not fill out customs documents, select carriers, determine shipping times, etc.
Your items are important to us, so we are very careful in our packing and use the best materials and take our time to make certain that it arrives in the condition in which it left here! We normally ship smaller items to eBay's shipping center using Priority Mail.  Packages larger than 12" in any dimension usually ship via Parcel Post to save you money.  All of our shipping cost include full ensurance within the U.S.  In many cases, only partial ensurance is available to countries outside of the U.S.  We will always purchase the maximum available on your behalf.  We'll purchase eBay's ShipCover for you only when necessary.   It is important that you understand that ShipCover ironically doesn't cover the cost of shipping, so in the unlikely event of loss or damage, you, the buyer will forfeit that cost.  Hopefully eBay will fix this problem in the future but for now, your bid constitutes your acceptance of these terms.
    Returns:
We will accept returns within fourteen days of your receipt of the item only if the item is materially misrepresented.
All returns are made at the buyer's expense.
