Description
I own a specialty advertising company, now in our 43rd year - and I was in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm. We are now in the semi-retirement stages and I am offering our somewhat unusual advertising pieces collected over the years.Among our better clients was Electrolux, the makers of those fine vacuum cleaners. Here is an assortment of over-run salesman samples from actual orders I sold to Electrolux. They range in the period from the late 1970's to the '80's to the '90's. All were over-run salesman samples, never used, and for the most part in as new condition - even after all of these years!
And here is what the fortunate buyer will receive:
A.
The W.E. Bassett Company was, and still is a preferred supplier of nail clippers and related products. Their line name is "Trim". Vitronic is another premier supplier of quality vinyl goods. Bassett and Vitronic teamed up to offer this very nice manicure gift set. Instruments included are large clipper, small clipper with file and cuticle tool, knife and tweezers. All are stainless steel and made in the U.S.A.
The tools are nicely held in a custom case, size 3.25" x 4" closed, with turned and nylon stitched trim. Electrolux is engraved on the affixed aluminum plate. The case too is U.S.A. manufactured for quality. It is gift packaged in a custom two piece presentation box.
B. In the 1970's LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, was big. Due to the relatively high price of the Electrolux vacuum cleaners (because they were very well made), most were sold on pay-over-time installment plans. The Atlanta Treasury office was charged with the responsibility of collecting for cleaners. They used this nice LCD thermometer for those who collected - at the time, all female. This highly accurate thermometer, folds flat, but is then easily assembled for prominent display. U.S.A. made.
C. The Atlanta Treasury office distributed this nice deck of playing cards. They were manufactured by Paris Playing Card Company, and U.S.A. made too!
D. Key ring address book. Pages turn out so one can write addresses, etc. The spine reads..."My Own Who's Who". U.S.A. made.
E. Scripto butane lighter, in silver finish with Electrolux logo one side / Silverado logo on reverse. There is a small amount of discoloration on the Silverado side. Obviously, not filled. Made in the U.S.A.
F. Here are three lapel pins Electrolux awarded graduates of it's Management Training Center.
G. Our supplier, Winston, manufactured very nice leather goods, mostly in suede russet leather. Here is a set of two leather coasters we did for the Atlanta Treasury Office. The copy is actually branded into the leather for lasting durability. U.S.A. made.
H. Winston also made this suede russet leather luggage tag. The logo here too is branded into the leather. Also made in America.
I. The Electrolux sales force was all independent contractors, i.e., 1099 employees. As such, they needed to keep accurate records of their vehicle use for income tax purposes. We sold Electrolux this handy "Visor Cadet" to assist in that endeavor.
J. Electrolux liked their sales force to be easily identified, especially when they approached a home. We sold them name badges with a slot where the individual name could be inserted with ease.
K. There is an interesting story regarding this compass key ring -
At the Electrolux Sales & Service office here in Tucker, GA, each morning the sales manager, Dewey W. held a brief meeting. The purpose was to inspire the sales force to hustle, make sales, make money, etc. One morning, their best salesman (and at the time, the sales force was entirely male) complained about getting very lost the previous day, and losing sales. Dewey had a sense of humor. He called me to place a rush order for small compass key rings. When they arrived a couple of weeks later, Dewey presented each salesman with one!
L. Often the Electrolux salesman needed a small knife to open something. We sold them this cute retractable razor blade knife.
Electrolux purchased many pens of varying design, and here are several:
M. Our supplier Artmold or "Actionline" as they were called manufactured unusual pens. Here is their "Courier" key ring with removable pen. Still in original factory gift bag. U.S.A. made.
N. A PaperMate "eraser mate" pen, still in factory cello wrap. U.S.A. made.
O. The Atlanta Treasury Office wanted a pen to adhere next to a telephone, but attached so the pen would not get lost. Here is the answer to that need - an adhesive lanyard pen.
P. The last pen is the black one shown. It was in anodized black brass with gold trim. The Electrolux logo was actually a die struck metal and color filled in emblem attached to the clip. U.S.A. manufactured as well.
Note on the pens - as all contain the original refill, if used rather than displayed, replacement refills needed - which are readily available.
One final Electrolux note: They had an unofficial slogan..."Nothing Sucks Like An Electrolux!"
And one last observation - Most if not all of these goods are made in the U.S.A. Difficult to find that in today's marketplace...
What an excellent addition for anyone who worked or works for Electrolux, or perhaps collects such unusual memorabilia. All are over-run samples, never used, and well preserved, even after so many years.
It is from a smoke-free, pet-free, climate controlled environment.
